Field Trip # 2 - Freshwater

Today, May 27th, I did my Freshwater field trip at the Audobon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. It was a memorable, interesting and adventurous experience. At times it was a bit scary but very enjoyable. I was chased by a bee, there were many bugs biting, but I was in their territory so I adapted well. I am so appreciative of getting this opportunity to enjoy the natural environment. I have posted pictures of the lovely tour.

This is the entrance to the Corkscrew Swamp.

This is me on the boardwalk having fun and getting ready to experience the great outdoors.
This is the scenery along the tour.

Wetland. I could see many different beautiful birds flying around and some were chirping in the tree.

These are ferns in the wetland.

More wetland. I could hear animals making different noises but I could not see them.

Still more wetland. I heard something splashing in the water but I could not see what it was.

This was the beautiful scenery at one of the rest stops where I took a few minutes to rest, relax and enjoy nature.
This was more wetlands, many alligators were in this section. They were making loud noises.
This alligator was sunning.
This is a map of the Corkscrew watershed.
The dotted lines shows boundaries as it moves into the landscape. It supports people living in Naples and Bonita Springs and also the Southwest Florida wildlife.

Personal Reflection # 3

This evening I spent a wonderful time enjoying the environment while fishing in the canal in my back yard. I did not catch any fish but it was a wonderful experience. This just shows how easy it is for us to step outside and enjoy nature. Many evenings when I come home from a hectic day at work I come her and unwind. I am very grateful for this canal.

Personal Reflection # 2

Yesterday was my birthday. I had a wonderful party with my family and friends. Unfortunately I will not be able to share a picture of todays outdoor experience with you as one of my guests accidentally left with my camera. Today I am glad for some quiet time by myself. I am sitting outside in my back yard doing some self evaluation to see if I have achieved the goals I set for myself. It is so relaxing and peaceful out here. I can hear the birds chirping in the trees. There are many butterflies and other insects flying around. I am sure they are enjoying the beautiful outdoors and the sunshine as much as I am. This experience with nature is very refreshing. I think I might just take a nap out here.

Field Trip # 1 - My Neighborhood

Today I did my field trip around my community of Lehigh Acres and took these pictures.

I went by a canal at the back of my house where my husband and I sometimes go fishing. We saw some big fish swimmimg in the canal.

I stopped by some lots of lands that were filled with trees.
It was a beautiful scenery.

I passed by a yard that had two horses.

I visited a cow farm and saw some beautiful cows.

While returning home from this field trip I noticed that there was an Ecological Park on Lee Blvd. I found this very ironic because I pass by this street very often and have never noticed that an Ecological Park was there. I was so excited.
I stopped and toured the Jim Fleming Ecological Park in Lehigh Acres. I saw some beautiful trees. I even took a picture standing beside a sign in the park.

This project has made me more aware of my surroundings and has taught me to appreciate my environment much better.

My Family

Today I will tell you about my family. I live with my husband who believes in me and is always encouraging me to do my best. My mom is my biggest cheerleader and is always expecting me to get A's. I have 4 sisters and 2 brothers who I love very dearly. I do not get to see them as often as I would like because some of them reside outside of the US. We try to make family trips to see each other at least once per year.

Introduction

My name is Paula. I am a FGCU student majoring in Accounting. I am originally from Jamaica but currently lives in Lehigh Acres. This blog is for my University Colloquium class.
